Mobilization began on July 10, 2019 and the remedial activities are expected to take about 2 years to complete. The cleanup activities are being performed with oversight by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). Continuous community air monitoring is on-going. For the period 8/22/19 through 8/28/19 there was no 15-minute Action Limit exceedances for Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC). On 8/27, there was a 15-minute Action Limit exceedance for Particulate Matter (PM-10) [dust] within the Site boundary at the east end of Huntington Street. Additional dust mitigation consisting of increased water application in the work area was implemented immediately following notification of the elevated PM-10 concentrations. No additional 15-minute Action Limit exceedances for PM-10 occurred during the reporting period.

National Grid is preparing to begin field work for the remediation of the former Citizens Works Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Site. Remedial activities are expected to begin this summer and take about 20 months to complete. The work will be conducted under the oversight of the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
The remedial design for the site was approved by NYSDEC in 2018. Following approval, National Grid has procured contractor and environmental consulting services to perform field construction activities. In addition, earlier this Spring National Grid began working with off-site private property owners to conduct pre-construction surveys of adjacent properties in anticipation of the start of work. NYSDEC held a Public Availability Session on June 13th at PS 372 to review the remediation plan and schedule for the Citizen’s remediation project.
